Abstract

We describe Miconia burkeae, a new dioecious species of Miconia section Cremanium from the Peruvian Andes. The new species shares the presence of nearly sessile and glabrescent leaves with two other Andean species in section Cremanium, M. lilacina and M. opacifolia, but differs in leaf shape and texture, as well as other characters. The occurrence of dioecy in Miconia is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
