Abstract

Waste oily sludge (OS) was transformed into energy-rich carbonaceous material by a thermochemical conversion process using a microwave-induced process. The aims of this research were to ride the environment of side effect products waste oily sludge, solid fuel production via microwave process of oily sludge. OS samples were collected from North Refineries Company (NRC) Baiji. The microwave process was employed using different ranges of micro-power at different residence time to produce chars under nitrogen atmosphere and the process showed that solid production increased gradually as power increased. Raw and char products materials were characterized using proximate, CHNS-O and HHV analyses and the results exhibited that the chars have high energy values with 18.35 MJ/kg as the maximum calorific value. It was concluded that the collected oily sludge waste was rich in carbon and high-value petroleum materials and the char yield has a higher-heating value which is expected to be used as solid carbon fuel.
