Abstract

This article discusses a case report of a secondary Buruli ulcer lesion in an eight-year-old boy from Togo. The boy initially presented with a nodule that was diagnosed as Buruli ulcer disease (BUD) and was successfully treated with antibiotics. However, ten months later, he developed a secondary nodule on his thigh. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of Mycobacterium ulcerans DNA, but no viable bacteria were detected. The lesion eventually healed under conventional wound care. The article highlights the need for further research on the pathogenesis and treatment of secondary BUD lesions.
