Abstract
- The article analyzes indigenous words in Guatemalan lexicography of the 19th century, highlighting the work "Vicios del lenguaje y provincialismos de Guatemala" by Antonio Batres Jáuregui. The frequency, etymological origin, and lexical fields of these terms are examined, as well as the value judgments in the work. The biography of José Luis Ramírez Luengo, a Guatemalan politician and philologist with liberal ideology and hints of racism towards indigenous people, is also presented. It is concluded that indigenous words are valued for their widespread use and their importance for the linguistic identity of Hispanic Americans. [Extracted from the article]
