Abstract

By comparing the results of calculations using the Mie theory, which is considered exact, a validity region of the approximate method for calculating the extinction cross section of spherical nanoparticles through polarizability has been found. The calculations were performed for w-CdS, InP, and PbS, and their results were presented in the form of the exact extinction cross section to the approximate absorption cross section ratio as a function of the particle size and light wavelength. The extinction coefficients for w-CdS and PbS nanoparticles depending on the wavelength and refractive index of the medium have also been calculated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
