Abstract
- Jing Jiang's book, "Found in Translation: 'New People' in Twentieth-Century Chinese Science Fiction," offers new perspectives on Chinese science fiction by examining texts brought into dialogue through translation. The book covers the early twentieth century to the post-Mao era and explores how Chinese science fiction contributes to Chinese conceptualizations of modernity. The book analyzes themes of creating "new people" through edification or bioengineering, and discusses the genre's interventions in debates about citizenry, subjectivity, and humanity in China's twentieth century. This book will be of interest to scholars and graduate students studying Chinese science fiction and modern Chinese literature. [Extracted from the article]
