Abstract

The transmission system is one part of the electric power system that needs to be maintained to achieve service continuity. One of the main components of the transmission system is the insulator. Over time, the insulator is exposed to pollutants from the environment. It can interfere with the work of the insulator. This study aims to analyze the effect of pollutants on the insulator, the effect of stubs on the chain insulator circuit, and the effect of the grading ring electrode on the voltage distribution. This study uses an experimental method, and then the data needed for this research by the experiment in the laboratory. Based on the result analysis, the pollutants attached to the insulator cause the breakdown voltage between the balls to decrease. Meanwhile, the stub whose position has moved causes the breakdown voltage of the insulator at the position after the stub to decrease due to the creepage distance, and the resistance of the insulator decreases, causing the voltage distribution to be more uneven. At the same time, the leveling ring electrode used in this study did not have a significant effect because the leveling ring electrode used was only 40 cm in diameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
