Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of teaching Environmental Education course in developing environmental awareness among student teachers at the Faculty of Applied and Educational Sciences in Al-Nadera, Ibb University in Yemen. To achieve this, a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was used The researcher developed a tool that represents a scale for the awareness of environmental problems in its two dimensions (environmental knowledge- environmental attitudes), which consisted of (179) items. The tool was administered before and after teaching Environmental Education to third-year students majoring in Quran and Islamic Studies- English language, whose number was (39) male and female studens: The results revealed that. There were significant differences between the mean scores of student teachers in the environmental awareness scale as a whole and in the environmental knowledge dimension before and after teaching environmental education in favor of the post-test, indicating the effectiveness of teaching environmental education in developing environmental awareness of student teachers. There were no significant differences between the mean scores of student teachers in the environmental attitudes dimension of the awareness scale, and the effect size was moderate for the independent variable concerning the development of attitudes towards environmental problems among student teachers This indicates that the effect is not sufficient because the period of practice may not be sufficient to change the attitudes and creating a positive attitude towards the environment and its problems.
