Abstract

Patricia Velásquez, a successful model and actress, founded the organization Wayuu Taya to enhance the welfare of the Wayuu Indigenous group in Venezuela. Despite not speaking Wayuunaiki or living among the Wayuu, Velásquez has gained respect and support from the community due to her Wayuu heritage. Wayuu Taya has implemented various programs, including installing water pumps, establishing schools, and providing nutritional support, reaching over 135,000 people directly and 400,000 indirectly. Velásquez's goal is to prevent Wayuu families from being forced to leave Venezuela by educating and feeding their children. Wayuu Taya has formed partnerships with organizations like Acceso and Direct Relief to ensure efficient and accountable aid distribution. Velásquez's approach is rooted in cultural sensitivity and collaboration, aiming to empower the Wayuu community through education and addressing social issues. [Extracted from the article]
