Abstract
- The article "Colonial Lima, Black City, 16th-17th Centuries" analyzes the presence of the black population in the city of Lima during the 16th and 17th centuries. It highlights that blacks represented more than 53% of the total population, indicating that it was a society of slaves where their presence was central in domestic economy and day labor. Despite the possibility of a large-scale slave rebellion, the State and the Church implemented strategies to escape social tensions, such as marriage and the prevention of cohabitation, as well as physical punishment for rebellious slaves. This presence generated concerns among colonial authorities, who feared possible black uprisings in Lima. [Extracted from the article]
