Abstract

This article introduces a special issue of Nottingham French Studies that features six articles on various topics in French studies. The articles cover a range of methodologies, theoretical perspectives, time periods, and genres. The common thread among the contributors is that they have all faced challenges and precarity in their early-career academic journeys. The articles explore diverse subjects such as medieval bears in literature, fictitious conversations in seventeenth-century pamphlets, the BUMIDOM migration scheme, Jean-Luc Nancy's engagement with biomedical science, online language commentary on French-language Twitter, and grassroots visual culture in the Parisian banlieue. Despite the obstacles faced by early-career researchers, these articles showcase their innovative and rigorous research. [Extracted from the article]
