Abstract

This article presents a case report and literature review on neuronal intermediate filament autoimmunity manifesting as ataxia and peripheral neuropathy. The patient, a 64-year-old man, presented with dizziness, unsteady gait, numbness, and weakness in his lower extremities. Various tests were conducted, including neuroimaging, antibody testing, and whole-body scans, to rule out other potential causes. The patient was tentatively diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and treatment with prednisone resulted in significant improvement. The article highlights the importance of considering neuronal intermediate filament autoimmunity in the differential diagnosis of patients with ataxia and peripheral neuropathy.
