Abstract
- This article is a review of studies that examine the effectiveness of prophylactic negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in reducing the risk of surgical site infections (SSI) in patients with closed surgical wounds. The review found that NPWT can be effective in reducing the risk of SSI, as well as other complications such as wound dehiscence and the need for wound debridement. However, there is still debate about the overall benefit of NPWT, and more research is needed to confirm its efficacy and cost-effectiveness. Another study specifically focused on the use of NPWT for mastectomy wounds and found conflicting results regarding its impact on wound complications. Overall, NPWT may be effective in reducing certain complications associated with surgical wounds, but further research is needed to fully understand its benefits and limitations. The findings of these studies contribute to improving clinical practices in managing surgical wounds and ultimately improving patient outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
