Abstract
- This letter, published in the journal Australasian Psychiatry, discusses a case report of a 20-year-old Asian man who experienced recurrent serotonin syndrome after using cannabis. The patient had a history of bipolar disorder and was taking fluoxetine, melatonin, and lithium. On three separate occasions, he presented to the emergency department with symptoms consistent with serotonin syndrome, and cannabis use was found to be present each time. The authors suggest that there may be a potential link between high concentrate cannabis use and the development of serotonin syndrome, and caution that patients should be aware of the risks of combining cannabis with serotonergic medications.
