Abstract

The Faroe Islands, located in the northeast Atlantic, are known for their treacherous currents that have historically made travel between islands difficult. However, Swedish company Minesto plans to harness these powerful tidal currents to build the world's first tidal energy park. The project aims to produce around 20 percent of the Faroe Islands' energy by 2030 and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. While there are concerns about the environmental impact and potential disruption to fishing areas, researchers are working to strategically place the turbines to mitigate ecological impacts. The Faroe Islands' renewable energy sector is already strong, with around 40 percent of electricity production coming from green energy since the 1990s. [Extracted from the article]
