Abstract
- The effect of surface texture on the efficiency of friction energy dissipation in a nonlinear energy sink (NES) was investigated. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to develop a quadratic regression model explicating the relationship between control factors (groove width, depth, and density) and responses (shear stress and friction coefficient) associated with rectangular groove surface texture. Response surface methodology (RSM) was utilized to optimize the control variables for increasing shear stress and friction coefficient between magnetic fluids (MFs) and groove texture. Prototype testing revealed that groove texture significantly enhanced friction energy dissipation efficiency, confirming the effectiveness of optimized texture for MF-NES. [Display omitted] • Surface wettability significantly influences MF tribological properties. • The quadratic regression model of texture parameter optimization is established. • Surface texture can effectively enhance the friction damping force of MF. • Surface texture can significantly improve the energy dissipation efficiency of MF-NES.
