Abstract

The article analyzes Dante Alighieri's poem "Canzone Montanina." The author discusses various research on the poem, including its suggested year of completion, subject matter of carnal love, connections to Dante's previous poetry. He suggests that biographical considerations and previous works should be ignored, suggesting that the best approach to the poem is as a self-contained creation. Through analysis of metaphors, structure, and rhetoric he states that the poem stands as an example of complex artistry.
