Abstract

This article explores the treatment of psoriasis in patients with bipolar disorder who are taking lithium. While lithium can cause or worsen psoriasis, it has traditionally been recommended to discontinue the treatment. However, recent case reports have shown success in using biologic drugs to treat psoriasis without stopping lithium. The article emphasizes the importance of collaboration between psychiatrists and dermatologists in managing this condition. It presents a case study where a patient's psoriasis improved with the introduction of a biologic drug while continuing lithium therapy, suggesting that discontinuing lithium may not be necessary. Further research is needed to develop clinical guidelines in this area. [Extracted from the article]
