Abstract

Collaboration between doctors and psychologists in the psychological support of patients seems to be a natural process at the moment, and is particularly important in the context of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) with gamete donors. Indeed, the psychological stress felt by patients can have a negative impact on the ART outcome. Psychological support can help address issues that are not discussed during the medical consultation. Psychological support is all the more important in that patients need to be aware of the process they are embarking on and the consequences it will entail. The psychologist will be able to work on the mourning of the dream journey, and enable acceptance of this new mode of conception. Psychological support for patients undergoing ART with gamete donors brings added value to the medical process, and could improve the effectiveness of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
