Abstract
- To prevent corrosion of (carbon steel) an ethanolic extract of wild clary was used in two mediums (3.5% NaCl and 0.5 M HCl) with three concentrations (5, 15, 25) mL/L and three temperatures (298, 318 and 338) K. The main components of this extract are 4H-Pyran-4-one, Ethanamine, and Amino-octadec as indicated by GC-MS method. Excellent inhibition efficiency (IE%) of 81.447% was acquired at a temperature of (298K) and a concentration of (15) mL/L in 3.5% NaCl medium, and (IE%) of 92.944% was obtained at temperature of (298K) and a concentration of (25) mL/L in 0.5M HCl medium. The extract was labeled with (FTIR) and the protective film was analyzed with FESEM and AFM. An electrochemical research by Potentiostat validated the protective coating generated on carbon steel surfaces, revealing that (wild clary) extract was a (mixed type) inhibitor.
