High-pressure synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of MnGe4 single crystal.

Abstract

• MnGe 4 single crystal was successfully synthesized by HPHT techniques. • The crystal structure of MnGe 4 was refined using single crystal X-ray diffraction. • MnGe 4 showed small magnetic moment of 1.5 μ B /Mn. • MnGe 4 is a magnetic material with small coercive field. In this study, the MnGe 4 single crystal sample has been synthesized by high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) techniques for the first time. And then its structure and magnetism were studied in detail. MnGe 4 was determined to crystallize into an orthorhombic structure (space group: Cmmm) by using the single crystal X-ray diffraction characterization. The dependence of magnetization on magnetic field and temperature show that MnGe 4 single crystal is ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature (T C) of 330 K and the effective magnetization moment of 1.58 μ B at T = 2 K and H = 4 T.
