Abstract

The article discusses the research project "The Club Scene" by the Swedish design and architecture group Mycket. The project explores the spatial and social dimensions of queer nightclubs and aims to understand the architectural and social elements necessary for people to flourish in these spaces. The project involves re-enactments of significant clubs from the past, such as Lalasalon, Culture Club, and Sappho Islands, which represent different times and places. The article also mentions the decline of queer spaces in Stockholm due to gentrification and the group's involvement in other projects, such as the Ball Cap, which provides an outdoor rehearsal space for a dance group. The group emphasizes the importance of hosting and the idea that architecture resides not only in the physical space but also in the crowd and the social interactions within it. The article concludes by mentioning the group's current work with the planning office in Haninge on a new housing district and their exploration of legends and fairytales to connect with a time when humans were more connected to nature.
