Abstract

This study aims to analyze the value of the community's perception and appreciation of Schizostachyum lima (S. lima) in an effort to design a conservation strategy for S. lima on Lombok Island. Ethnobotanical data collection was carried out through direct and indirect interviews with 207 respondents, including key informants, namely bamboo straw craftsmen. Respondents were categorized into four groups based on age, namely young age (17-29 years) as many as 77 people, adult age (30-44 years) as many as 54 people, middle age (45-59 years) as many as 34 people and old age (60 years) as many as 42 people. The results showed that the level of public knowledge (perception) of S. lima was found to be very low in the young age group and the middle age group, respectively (13.33% and 18.63%), low in the adult age group (31.91%) and sufficient in the old age group (62.86%). Meanwhile, the level of public appreciation of S. lima in the young age group and the middle age group is very low, 6.88% and 16.76%, respectively. Meanwhile, the adult age group and the old age group have an appreciation level for S. lima, which is included in the low category, namely 37.61% and 31.9%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
