Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the number of lenggek crowing based on the qualitative phenotypic characteristics of the Kokok Balenggek Chicken (KBC) as the basic for selection. The material used in this study were 66 adult male KBCs that already have a crow and kept by 6 breeders of the KBC Community in Padang City. The sample selection used purposive sampling method, that adult male KBC who already had a crow. The KBC data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis by calculating the percentage, means, standard deviation, and coefficient of variance. The variables observed were the number of lenggek crowing (NLC), feather color, eye color, lobe color, beak color, shank color, and shank feather. The results showed that the average NLC KBC in the 6 breeders of the KBC Community in Padang City was 5.04. Based on qualitative phenotypic characteristics, the highest ratio of NLC means were KBC with red kuriak feather (5.38), red eye color (5.56), red lobe color (5.16), black beak color (5.33), black shank color (5.33), and there are not feather on shank (5.09). On the other hand, based on the coefficient of diversity, the NLC KBC based on the qualitative phenotype is in the high category (˃15%). The conclusion of this study, the qualitative phenotype can not be used as a basic selection to determine the NLC KBC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
