Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of welding time on the structure and strength of the spot welded mild steel and aluminum with zinc powder as filler on the locator of the two specimen. The results of the stress test show that the filler zinc and welding time affect the strength of the spot welded joint. The highest value obtained is 630 N with a welding time parameter of 0.5 seconds, a current of 9000 A and a holding time of 5 seconds and the lowest is 260 N with a welding time parameter of 0.5 seconds, a current of 8000 A and a holding time of 5 seconds. In macro photo testing, it is found that the variation of welding time affects the size of the resulting nugget diameter. In the SEM test with variations in welding time of 0.5 seconds, current of 9000 and holding time of 5 seconds, zinc powder was mixed and diffused with mild steel and no gaps were seen in the zinc area. Then the EDX data shows the connection of mild steel and zinc with variations in welding time of 0.3 seconds and 0.5 seconds in the form of elements of zinc (Zn) in the joint area because zinc melts and diffuses into mild steel in that area.
