Abstract

This article discusses a case report of a 47-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed a lung infection caused by Tropheryma whipplei (TW). SLE patients are more susceptible to infections due to decreased immunity and immunosuppressive medications. The patient's SLE was controlled with treatment, but the immunosuppressive and biological agents made her more susceptible to TW infection. The article highlights the need for further research on the role of belimumab (a biological agent) in infection and emphasizes the importance of recognizing the risk of opportunistic infections in SLE patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy.
