Abstract

Osman Hamdi Bey, a significant name in Turkish culture and art, was a museum director, administrator, artist, and a pioneer with the institutions he created in the Western style. His love of art and artistic awareness provided the institutional basis for preserving ancient works. Visualizing the cultural memory through his works of art made it possible to make the heritage permanent and to establish control over it while laying the foundations of Turkish museology and ensuring the transfer of the cultural accumulation to future generations. Osman Hamdi Bey supported his museum directorship with the themes of his work and hoped to explore the cultural context through his paintings. He took his place in Turkish art as a value that reflects the characteristics of the period in his works, which include cultural and artistic elements, and conveys his views in his paintings. This study focuses on the period between 1880- 1906 and includes Osman Hamdi Bey's architectural works used as spaces, their related elements, and cultural objects in Türkiye. The emphasis is on the concrete reflections of cultural heritage and a particular visual cultural element in Osman Hamdi Bey's works. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
