Abstract

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) is an organization that advocates for and educates Americans about the importance of free speech and expression. It has experienced significant growth in recent years, particularly due to an increase in free speech violations on college campuses. In 2022, FIRE expanded its mission to defend the rights of all Americans to free speech and expression. They work with legislators, pass legislation, and engage with supporters to protect civil liberties and civil rights. A recent case involving Ashland University's student newspaper, The Collegian, exemplifies how FIRE defends free speech. They successfully advocated for the reversal of policies that infringed on the newspaper's press freedom. FIRE will also host a summit for high schoolers in 2024 to educate them about free speech and First Amendment principles. [Extracted from the article]
