Abstract

The article discusses the issue of "pink slime" websites, which are partisan sites that pretend to be local news outlets and are funded by dark money. These websites undermine the credibility of local journalism, which is still trusted by many people despite the reputation of national media being constantly attacked. NewsGuard, a private enterprise, tracks and identifies these pink slime sites, but the government is being urged to regulate them more actively. Some media professionals question the effectiveness of these sites and whether government intervention is necessary, while others argue that the government should ensure that these sites are not misusing the regulatory protections for the press.
