Abstract

A of the major problems nowadays is the final allocation of solid waste. In this perspective, the question about the conditions of how these residues within the state of Roraima were disposed, became a concern, so this work sought to characterize the environmental scenario of the solid waste disposal areas in the municipalities of the State. For this purpose, the Waste Landfill Quality Index in Trenches and Dumps-IQR-Ditches/Dumps was used as an indicator of environmental quality, a form adapted from the Waste Landfill Quality Index-IQR, which is a methodological instrument created and used by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo. This form was completed using on-site visits, photographs, remote sensing images and data obtained from the environmental agencies of each municipality through a standardized questionnaire as a source. The collected information was quantified by scoring criteria, classifying as inadequate, controlled and adequate areas. Thus, it was concluded that none of the municipalities in the State reached a score higher than 8.1, an area that would be classified under appropriate conditions and in accordance with the provisions of the National Policy on Solid Waste. Under controlled conditions, only the municipality of Normandia scored the equivalent of 6.7, as it has a small sanitary landfill in accordance with the standards of ABNT/NBR 15849/2010. Thus, the other Municipalities function in inadequate conditions, not meeting the current legislatures and configuring a mere disposition in the open. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
