Abstract
- This article focuses on "Baseball," a senior seminar at Maryville College, Tennessee. When Jeff M. Bay, an associate professor of statistics, decided to create a seminar about baseball, he started with what he knew best. He established another section about how the game, set against the backdrop of American history, rose to become the national pastime. Students prepared presentations on specific baseball players, focusing on the broader history of the decade in which those players were active. For the culture component of the course, the students wrote papers on such topics as baseball in Cuba and the historical movement to allow games on Sundays.
