Abstract

This article provides an overview of the work and legacy of Edward Said, a well-known intellectual and activist. It discusses the lack of attention his work has received within academia and postcolonial journals, despite its widespread discussion in mainstream forums. The article explores various reasons for this, including a shift towards tribalism and a desire for more radical politics. It also delves into Said's philosophical claims, particularly regarding linguistic structures and the relationship between narrative and reality. The author acknowledges the complexity of Said's legacy and the criticisms he has faced, while recognizing the importance of his work. The article also addresses the tension between authorship and celebrity, as well as Said's rejection of certain aspects of Michel Foucault's ideas. It highlights the contradictions and influences in Said's work, including his engagement with Marxism and his negotiation of imperialism. The author expresses gratitude for the articles that contribute to the ongoing relevance of Said's work. [Extracted from the article]
