Abstract

The importance of higher education's function in knowledge transfer is demonstrated by the rising demand for research that measures its performance. Nonetheless, limited systematic reviews are being performed for studies that employed data envelopment analysis (DEA) in higher education. Thus, this paper aims to review the available literature that uses DEA in the assessments of higher education. A systematic review of Science Direct discovered 23 related studies using the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method. Further analysis of these articles resulted in four main themes, namely the extension of the DEA model, the integration of the DEA model with other methods applied in HEIs, the application of DEA in HEIs, and network DEA (NDEA). Additionally, the inputs and outputs utilised in every paper were identified in this article. These indicators enable practitioners to select appropriate indicators for their research and improve their understanding of the various DEA-based applications in higher education.
