Abstract

The present study concentrated on the effect of zinc transporters and zinc on the status of coronary arteries. Sixty patients suffering from atherosclerosis (38 male and 22 female) between the ages of 45-70 years participated. Their samples were collected from the "open heart unit in Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital in Al-Najaf city". On the other hand, thirty healthy people (15 male and female) were selected as a control group. Serum Zinc transporter 8 and Insulin were evaluated using the ELISA method. Zinc, Urea, Creatinine and glucose were determined by using a spectrophotometer. The results exhibited increase in the concentration of zinc transporter and insulin in atherosclerosis patients, compared with the control group, no significant change in Zinc, Urea, Creatinine and glucose. it can conclude from the current study there is a significant increase in zinc transporter, insulin, and Glucose levels in patients with atherosclerosis as compare with the control group, thus high level of zinc transporter in patients is considered an early indicator for the detection of atherosclerosis. Irregular relation between zinc and zinc transporter. In addition, Irregular correlation between insulin and zinc in atherosclerosis patients, more samples should be used to prove the relationship between insulin and zinc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
