Abstract
- This article reports a case of Hantavirus haemorrhagic fever and renal syndrome (HFRS) caused by the Hantaan virus in Singapore. The patient, a 59-year-old Malaysian man, presented with fever, myalgia, confusion, and unsteady gait. Although he had no history of direct rodent exposure, he reported consuming cow urine during his travels to a rural area in Malaysia. The patient's serum was tested and found to be reactive for Hantaan virus antibodies. Hantavirus infections are rarely reported in Singapore and Malaysia, but underdiagnosis may be possible due to the challenges in testing. The mainstay of treatment for HFRS is supportive care.
