Abstract

The article explores Black students' views about Black music education in the U.S. Topics discussed include the role of the Black Arts movement in urban schooling and in reshaping aesthetic education, music scholars and educators' recommendations of Amiri Baraka's books 'Blues People" and "Black Music" as important pedagogical resources, and strategies used by Black students to shift the balance of power in the classroom.
