Abstract

President Joe Biden delivered a 67-minute State of the Union address that exceeded low expectations and calmed concerns about his stamina and ability to deliver a message. However, it remains unclear if he changed voters' fundamental concerns about his age and memory problems. Polls are expected to show little or no positive impact from his address on his standing with voters. Some Democrats hope that Biden's performance foreshadows a comeback similar to President Harry Truman's in 1948, but it is unlikely given the differences between Trump and Truman and the challenges Biden faces in a long and frenetic campaign. Biden's address also undermined his position as president by needlessly insulting and offending important political players. Overall, while Biden's speech drew attention away from his problems for a moment, it did not solve them. [Extracted from the article]
