Abstract
- The article suggests a news pamphlet titled "Letters Sent From Venice," published by Henry Bynneman in 1571 or 1572, as a source for Elizabethan poet George Gascoigne's "A Devise of a Maske for the Right Honourable Viscount Mountacute," an English eyewitness account of the Siege of Famagusta and the Battle of Lepanto. It discusses Gascoigne's use of figures found in the pamphlet to present an account of Turkish losses in the battle.
