Abstract

The article "The Disappearance of Secondary Habitats" describes the decline of unspoiled primary habitats for labyrinth fish and the increasing loss of secondary habitats. These serve as alternative habitats and are either used more intensively or converted into transportation routes and developed land. The trend towards designating national parks in remote mountainous regions leads to the urbanization of fertile plains. It is emphasized that it is important to establish national parks in these areas as well in order to preserve biodiversity. The protection of nature parks is often compromised by corruption and greedy behavior. In Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia and Thailand, secondary habitats are threatened. The conversion of peat swamps into residential areas and the use of heavy machinery lead to the loss of valuable habitats. Construction activities cause changes in the landscape, water pollution, and high CO2 emissions. The protection and preservation of the remaining secondary habitats are of great importance for nature conservation and biodiversity. [Extracted from the article]
