In order to draw conclusions about the place of psychoanalysis in the contemporary world and, in particular, about what the latter demands from psychoanalysis as theory and as practice, in this article, I go back to some of Lacan's elaborations about the symptom as a way of updating the psychoanalytic praxis with respect to Freud's teaching. The horizon of my reflection is that of the different mutations that have taken place in the contemporary world and their effects, an issue that we can place in Lacan's developments about the capitalist discourse. My interest is to return to some elements that are at stake of what has been called the "subjectivity of the epoch", considering the scope that some diagnoses may have and their relationship with what is at stake for the subjects in today's discourse. From the latter, I highlight the symptom in its value and function as the actual thing that questions the effects of its devaluation when reduced to a simple disorder. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
