Abstract

Overloading commercial vehicles where the truck has an axle load of more than 8 tons is very sensitive to road design life. This study aims to simulate the effects of overloading commercial vehicles on road design life. The approach taken in this study is to compare normal traffic conditions with overloading commercial vehicles. The data collection method is carried out for 3x24 hours by identifying the vehicle axle load, especially for commercial vehicles. The method of analysis is carried out by calculating CESA5 for each of the normal and overload axle load conditions. Then compare the age of the road pavement under normal conditions with the age of the road pavement when there is an overloading of commercial vehicles. The results showed that under normal load conditions, the life of road pavement construction can reach 20 years, but if the commercial vehicles are overloaded, the road pavement construction will only last up to 5.5 years. This means that with the condition of overloading commercial vehicles, the road will be damaged quickly and the construction life will be 27 % of the design life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
