Abstract
- In 2018, I moved with my family to the Melbourne suburb of Vermont, 20 km east of the CBD. The rent was surprisingly cheap, but then our house was a fair hike from the nearest railway station. We were pleased because the house was so sweet - a small mid-century 'brick and tile' with three bedrooms and large living room windows. These overlooked a beautiful garden with crepe myrtles and Japanese maples, rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. The backyard was less beautiful. It had a dilapidated patio shaded with green polycarbonate roofing and the rusty barbecue peeked out from overgrown clumps of snake vine and ornamental ginger. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
