Abstract
- The article discusses the decline in population of purple martins, a North American songbird, and the efforts of volunteers to build colonies and provide substitute housing for them. These colonies are being established on public land, such as a biosolids treatment plant and a city park in Austin, Texas. The volunteers, known as purple martin "landlords," check the nests frequently to ensure the birds' health and protect them from invasive species. The article also highlights the sense of community and satisfaction that comes from contributing to the survival of these birds. [Extracted from the article]
