Abstract
- Backgroung: The iatrogenic effects of psychotropic drugs in patients suffering from psychiatric diseases are frequent, negatively impacting compliance, hence the need to study them to minimize the risk of occurrence. Aim: To study psychotropic drugs side effects prescribed and compliance with treatment. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study using an anonymous questionnaire, covering adult patients, treated on an outpatient basis at the Ibn Nafis psychiatric hospital in Marrakech, Morocco. It took place between May and June 2023. The compliance degree was determined according to the Morisky questionnaire. The side effects imputability study followed the French method. Results: Two hundred patients were consulted with an average age of 43.92 years, and a F/M sex ratio of 1.38. Approximately 45 % of treatments administered were antipsychotics. The respondents were followed mainly for psychotic disorders (42.5%), followed by anxiety-depressive disorders (42%). With an average compliance score of 8, 43% of patients were considered good adherents to treatment. A total of 1801 side effects were identified in 200 patients, with mainly neurological effects, followed by neurovegetative, endocrine and psychological and cognitive effects. Conclusion: This study clearly shows the reality and psychotropic treatments side effects importance in these patients followed on an outpatient basis. It would be interesting to develop a therapeutic education activity with this category of patients in order to improve the detection and side effects management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
