Abstract

The article discusses the development and validation of a new scale called the Gastroscopy Rate of Cleanliness Evaluation (GRACE) for assessing the visualization of the upper gastrointestinal tract during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). The scale consists of three different anatomic areas (esophagus, stomach, and duodenum) and four grades of cleanliness. The study involved expert and non-expert endoscopists evaluating images and performing real-time evaluations on patients. The results showed high levels of reproducibility, reliability, and agreement, suggesting that the GRACE scale could be an important tool for standardizing the evaluation of mucosal visibility and reducing the risk of missing lesions during EGD.
