Abstract

In this article the author discusses the new era of video journalism. The author presents an Internet definition of what a video journalist is: a video journalist is a television reporter who works alone with a small digital camera and laptop instead of the way a print journalist works with a pad and pencil or a laptop. This is about reporting and authorship. As anyone can pick up a pencil and paper and try to write so this encourages anyone with the urge and a vision to pick up a camera and an edit system and see what they can make. This is, after all, how most writers get started. A Web site informs that, what the video journalism concept offers to photographers is job security and the chance for vindication in an industry that has increasingly rewarded pretty faces over quality work. Moreover, there are still live shots and places where 2-person crews are necessary. The video journalism idea hasn't fully taken root in the U.S. yet, although embedded reporters used it during the Iraq war with stunning success.
