Abstract

Nursing is the work that encompasses autonomous care to people of all ages, families, groups and communities, the main characteristic and essence is care, it involves establishing a relationship of understanding and accompaniment in a comprehensive manner, making them the main formal caregivers in assistance, which highlights the need to look at their mental health and well-being of the nursing staff. The objective was to describe the impact on the mental health of a nursing professional in the care of patients in the COVID area in times of pandemic, in the period 2022-2023. A qualitative study was conducted, first through documentary analysis and then through the phenomenological method, descriptive based on the case study, considering the temporality in three moments, before, during and after the COVID pandemic. The findings provide evidence of changes and impacts at the biological, psychological, social and spiritual levels that result in mental health affectations that were experienced, and, on the other hand, of the scarcity of actions to provide health professionals with accompaniment, training and sensitization in mental health to improve their work and personal wellbeing.
