Abstract

A 62-year-old man developed eosinophilic myocarditis while being treated with dobutamine for cardiogenic shock. The man had a nonischaemic and biventricular heart failure and had previously experienced two episodes of cardiogenic shock within three months. He received dobutamine and epinephrine, and tests revealed low left ventricular ejection fraction, dilation of the heart chambers, and depressed right ventricular function. The man underwent a procedure to place an intra-aortic balloon pump and was given milrinone. However, he experienced RV failure and required a RV assist device. A biopsy showed acute eosinophilic myocarditis, which was believed to be caused by the dobutamine treatment. [Extracted from the article]
