Abstract

The article presents the life and work of Augusto Arcimis, a Spanish astronomer and science communicator. Born in Seville in 1844, Arcimis spent most of his life in Cadiz, where he established his astronomical and meteorological observatory in Plaza de Mina. Although he was self-taught in astronomy, his astronomical observations were published in European scientific journals. Additionally, he authored popular science works and had a significant encounter with Francisco Giner de los Ríos. In Madrid, Arcimis founded the Central Meteorological Institute and participated in atmospheric exploration using hot air balloons. His legacy includes the heritage of the Retiro Castle, which became the headquarters of the Central Meteorological Institute. It is suggested to honor his memory with a bust in Plaza de Mina in Cadiz and in the future Meteorological Museum in the Retiro Castle in Madrid. [Extracted from the article]
