Abstract

The article describes the synthesis of diborane(6)-dianions decorated with weakly coordinating B(C6F5)3- and SiEt3+ groups. Two compounds were isolated, which demonstrate the synthetic potential and chemical versatility of the dianions. The functionalization of the dianions is of interest for stabilizing reactive dications and modulating the properties of salts with reactive cations. The thermal stability, bond lengths, and electronic properties of the compounds were investigated and confirmed by spectroscopic and electrochemical measurements. The results show that the functionalization of the diborane(6)-dianions leads to new properties. [Extracted from the article]
